Just One Night, Part 1: The Stranger

Just One Night, Part 1: The StrangerJust One Night, Part 1: The Stranger by Kyra Davis

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

*sigh* I just wrote a review for this book and alas, it happened to be erased before I could publish it. So here I go again.
First off, I would like to thank NetGalley and Simon&Schuster for providing this ebook for my honest review.
Kasie Fitzgerald is one of those complacent, so called perfect girls who everyone adores to their faces but secretly hates their guts. She seems to know and almost resent this about herself. She also dares to dream of not so perfect fantasies that take her to a dark and forbidden place inside of herself. She is the china doll that has been encased in glass, and she wants out! During a weekend getaway to Vegas with her best friend Kasie indulges herself in a dark fantasy and spends the night with a stranger she meets in the casino. Kasie carries the memories of that night with her from Vegas and starts to contemplate integrating some of that hidden facet of herself into her normal life. Her long time boyfriend is put off by her attempts at integration, which may be part of the reason that when Robert Dade, Mr. One-night Stand himself, shows up in Kasie's professional life, she is easily compelled into making his transition into her personal life instead. As the moral implications of her new highly confusing and complicated sexual arrangements start to weigh heavily on Kasie, she must make a decision. Is she truly the china doll behind the glass, or is she human with a woman's dark desires?
While I found this to be a watered down version of my favorite cocktail, I am giving Just One Night, Part 1: The Stranger three stars for being an entertaining quick bath-time read. My main problem was with Kasie because she seemed to speak from outside of herself, like she has no control over anything she does. Even the steamy parts felt like someone was describing what they were seeing and not really experiencing anything themselves. I just felt like she lacked any real emotion other than confusion. I recommend this book to erotica fans that are looking for a short read to pass the time, but not embarrass themselves in public. I say that because I've read some scorchers that pretty much had me panting while sitting in a waiting room or airport terminal. That can be awkward, and you can totally avoid that with this book while still getting an entertaining read.
